I AM FREE OF THE PAST

"What you need to know about the past is know
matter what has happened, it has all worked together
to bring you to this very moment.
And this is the moment you can choose to make
everything new. Right now."

To Wish Upon the Moon

My mom once told me,
"Cast your wishes upon the moon,
for he will stay around much longer
than the stars."

Oh how the stars can feel so infinite and lasting.
But they will soon burn out and wither away in the
the unknown spaces.
They let go of themselves,
like you have too.

Where have you gone, my friend?
You used to seem so lasting,
and our friendship so infinite.
So now I will not wish on the time of 11:11,
or the stars,
or even you.
I will wish upon the moon because
he has stayed that much longer.

Weeping Willow

Willow Tree:
Her branches and leaves seem to seep down
in front of me and you,
Lying side-by-side, fingers laced together.
I notice her protective barrier keeping us from
the world we know, but she never will truly understand.

Willow tree,
I am older now and your trunk has been a sanctuary
for my life.
Peacefully and carelessly, I rest upon her back
that supports mine
A perfect place to adore her creator who crafted
her so diligently.

Willow Tree,
Why are you weeping?
You have grown older now and
I have aged, too.
Were you not the place where
I encountered my first love?
Were you not the place where
I've felt God's tangible presence?
You are that place for me.
And your branches will surround me now forever
with such elegance and grace:
not fully understanding the world itself,
but now understanding mine.
